TL Solien: Myths & Monsters

Throughout his long and prolific career, TL Solien has created paintings, prints, and drawings that interweave literal and metaphorical layers in an effort to convey the complex thoughts and emotions that occupy his mind. Solien has been an influential figure in the Midwest for decades, and is known nationally for canvases that explore personal thought with a dense visual lexicon of created and appropriated images. TL Solien: Myths & Monsters features works from the 1980s and 1990s to the present—drawing connections between the artist’s early explorations of life as a new father to recent works in which he turns to literary figures as repositories for his thoughts and fears.

Sculpture at MMoCA

Architect's Handkerchief  (1999), by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, is one of several outstanding sculptural works installed in the public spaces of the museum. Visitors may view important works by Ursula von Rydingsvard in the lobby in addition to works by Tony Cragg and Siah Armajani in the rooftop sculpture garden.
