MMoCA Volunteers
Become a volunteer and play an important role in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Volunteers will support the museum operations through a wide variety of tasks.
Visitor and Member Services
Assist at the first floor desk, answer questions regarding exhibitions and educational programs, offer navigational services, and distribute audio guides. Make visitors feel comfortable and informed.
Rooftop Garden
Maintain greenery on the rooftop. Expertise in gardening preferred.
Special Events
Various duties, depending on the event. Ensure that museum visitors and members have a positive, enjoyable experience.
General Office Support
Provide office support in various departments as needed.
Volunteers must be members of the museum and attend a volunteer orientation session. Candidates will be asked to make a one-year commitment and be available to work two three-hour shifts per month.

The Art League
The Art League, an active volunteer organization created in 1970, welcomes all Madison Museum of Contemporary Art members who choose to add this opportunity to a museum membership. Art League members organize several fundraisers throughout the year to support museum exhibitions and education programs. These include Art & Architecture tours, the Silent Auction Tent at Art Fair on the Square, and the Arts Ball. Members also enjoy a variety of art-related educational and social activities. more »
Edition MMoCA is a membership-based group bringing together art enthusiasts, art seekers and culturally minded individuals with a common interest in expanding their relationship with contemporary art and the museum. more »
The Docent Program
The docent program offers a variety of learning opportunities help docents prepare for their interaction with the public. A twelve-week training course is organized September through December, every other year (next session is September 23-December 16, 2008). Training includes grounding in principles of modern and contemporary art and art history, materials and methods, the school environment, public speaking, and interactive gallery techniques. Docents receive reference materials and texts, including a handbook produced by the Education Department. Their ongoing training includes lectures, field trips to other museums, and visits to artists' studios. Docents are required to make a two-year commitment and become members of the museum. more >>
