acrylic on Plexiglas, reverse painting, in artist's painted frame
7 1/2" x 8 1/2"
These reverse paintings on Plexiglas—a popular art form among the Chicago Imagists—were included in the 1967 Hairy Who? exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. The Hairy Who was an exhibition group of six individual artists who created work that incorporated imagery from comics and advertisements alongside humor and inside jokes. The paintings on Plexiglas emulate the smooth, flat areas of color found on painted store front windows and pinball machines of the 1960s.
