About

MMoCA commissioned Terrence Adeyanju to create a work of art to serve as visual inspiration for its first ever MMoCA Mosaic 5K fundraising event. Running in the Dark is the source image for the mosaic of photographs submitted by the 5K participants.

For Adeyanju, Running in the Dark was not just meant to convey movement, as it also “serves as a reminder that, internally or physically, we are all running to something.” The isolation created by the COVID-19 pandemic forced Adeyanju to deal with problems that he was used to running from. He now feels the urge to run toward challenges for clarity, release, or change. He sees this shift playing out everywhere—in relationships, politics, careers, and everyday choices. While gazing at Running in the Dark, the viewer is asked to ponder, “Where are we running to?”Adeyanju hopes we are moving toward a more compassionate and loving place.
