For Educators

Tours
Guided tours of MMoCA provide students with an opportunity to experience one of Wisconsin’s premiere settings for viewing modern and contemporary art. MMoCA’s exhibition galleries are designed to accommodate a wide range of visual art—from intimate drawings, prints, and photographs to large-scale sculptures, paintings, and installations.
MMoCA’s exhibitions inspire students to observe, question, think, respond, and reflect as they look closely at works of art. Tours are led by knowledgeable and enthusiastic docents who build upon student observation through group interaction and open-minded inquiry.

Teaching Pages
Teaching pages provide analysis of a selection of works of art on view at the museum, biographical information on featured artists, discussion questions, and links to additional resources. Teaching pages are prepared by MMoCA’s education department as an introduction to a museum visit by school groups or as an ongoing classroom teaching and learning resource.

Lesson Plans
Lesson Plans are designed for art educators of all kinds: teachers, parents, scout leaders, babysitters, and others looking for hands-on art-making activities inspired by the artwork on display at MMoCA. These activities incorporate materials available in most households and can be modified easily for artists of various ages and skill levels.

Art on Tour
MMoCA Art on Tour brings works of art from the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s permanent collection to public elementary schools in Dane County. A three-year cycle of exhibitions is presented at six participating schools to support interdisciplinary learning through visual art. Installed for six weeks at each school, Art on Tour exhibitions provide students with unique opportunities for in-depth study of original, museum-quality art. Exhibition themes for the current program cycle are nature, community, and fantasy.
