MMoCA temporarily closes doors in April to prepare for three new exhibitions

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) temporarily closes its doors in April to prepare for three new exhibitions.

MADISON, WI—This summer, MMoCA reflects on the legacy and lasting impact of the Wisconsin Triennial with a series of concurrent exhibitions spread across the Museum. To prepare for these exhibitions, MMoCA is transforming the gallery spaces and is closed to the public from April 7–May 1, 2025.

Part of the preparation will include much-needed maintenance on the stone floors in the Museum. For almost 20 years, the floor has welcomed millions of footsteps from visitors. The natural wear and tear, combined with the corrosion from winter salt, has been deferred for too long and must be addressed to preserve the iconic architecture of the Museum. Additional maintenance and repairs will be made to our heating and cooling system, fenestration, and lighting systems.

The Museum reopens on May 2 with a collection of new exhibitions. Headlining the series is the 2025 Wisconsin Triennial, featuring new work by 24 artists from across the state. State Street Gallery features José Lerma, an established artist whose first museum exhibition was in the Wisconsin Triennial. Henry Street Gallery offers a selection of artwork from the Museum’s permanent collection acquired from past triennials.

About MMoCA

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is always admission-free. Its vision is to be an organization that fosters the exchange of ideas and creates experiences that will inspire a wide audience; be a nexus for the work of emerging and established regional, national, and international artists; serve as a catalyst for the continued development of a vigorous community of artists; and provide a forum that will encourage people to be challenged by, reflect on, and make connections between art and the world around them.

The Rooftop Sculpture Garden provides an urban oasis with an incredible view which serves as a lovely venue for weddings, art openings, and cinema. The adjacent Rooftop Lounge is used for community and collaborative art pop-ups, as well as a reception area for Museum events. Please visit mmoca.org to learn more.
